Brakes
Brake Repair in Silver Plume, CO
Brakes that feel firm and stop straight on the descent toward Georgetown, with the worn parts shown to you before they are replaced.
Brakes Earn Their Keep Up Here
Mountain driving asks more of a brake system than almost anything else. Long descents build heat, heat glazes pads and distorts rotors, and old fluid boils sooner than fresh. At Auto Repair Silver Plume we measure every part of the system before recommending a fix, so you replace what is worn and keep what is still good.
We start with the wheels off: pad thickness, rotor thickness and runout, caliper slide condition, hose and line condition, and a fluid moisture test. Then you get a call with the findings, what each fix costs, and which items cannot wait.
Brake Symptoms to Take Seriously
Book an inspection if you notice any of these:
- Squealing that starts when you touch the pedal
- Grinding or metal-on-metal noise
- A pedal that pulses on long downhill stops
- The vehicle pulling left or right under braking
- A pedal that feels soft or travels further than it used to
What the Work Can Cover
Based on the measurements, the repair may include:
New pads
Pads matched to how you drive, with clips and shims replaced so they sit and wear evenly.
Rotors
Machined if thickness allows, replaced if they are below spec or heat-warped.
Calipers and slides
Freed and lubricated, or replaced when a piston sticks and drags the pads.
Fluid flush
Moist fluid swapped for fresh so the pedal stays firm on long descents.
Lines and hoses
Corroded steel lines and cracked rubber hoses flagged and priced.
ABS diagnosis
Sensor and module testing when the ABS light is on.
Parking brake
Cables and rear hardware adjusted so it holds on a slope.
Road test
A drive with real braking to confirm feel and noise before you collect it.

Quick Questions
- Do I always need new rotors with new pads?
- No. If the rotors measure above the minimum thickness and run true, they can stay or be resurfaced. We only replace them when the measurements say so.
- How often should brake fluid be changed?
- Most manufacturers list every two to three years. Mountain driving heats fluid more often, so we test its moisture content and recommend a flush only when the reading calls for it.
